Identity Crisis

She’s been cheering for the Cats longer than she’s been upright & mobile.  She was raised on the sidelines and learned to walk during preseason football camp.

Her first babysitter… was a defensive back.

This football team was part of her life.  She was born a Wildcat…

and for eight football seasons, we poured our lives into a community.  Without it, we’re having a real identity crisis.  ”Who do we cheer for now, Dad?” Ellie asked innocently one evening.  In our hearts, we still cheer for our boys.

As she moves on, as we all move on, her innocence keeps us afloat.  If she could, she would choose her Daddy’s next job from the color wheel.  {I, by the way, look amazing in navy.}  She is sure that somewhere there’s a team that sports pink & purple jerseys.

It’s confusing for all of us, but a four year old doesn’t quite understand the situation… just that Daddy is home ALL THE TIME & to her, that’s awesome.  We spent the weekend together at a buddy’s game cheering on the Bears.  Sitting in a stadium, clapping & hooting “defense”, and getting excited over first downs is normal for my girl.  For a few hours, we felt like a football family again.

On Sunday, as we blessed our food & thanked God for everything we have, Ellie said…

“Amen.  Go Bears!”

My heart absolutely aches for your family. I just know that God has the most amazing team waiting for your coach. BTW, Texas A&M – Commerce’s head coach resigned yesterday! It’s15 miles from my house, and the property next door to us is for sale. (Did I mention the amazing neighbors?)

Oh no, Sara! Somehow I’d missed your last two posts. I’m so sorry your family is going through this. It must be an incredibly sad, scary and uncertain time. Things will DEFINITELY work out but I know that doesn’t help you TODAY.

Wishing you and your husband all the luck and good wishes in the world!
