Once upon a church camp, I picked up the “How to Be An Artist” poster written by child of the world SARK — Susan Ariel Rainbow Kennedy. (I invite you to Google search her — you will not be disappointed.) It feels like a million summers ago that my parents dropped me off at SU as a rising seventh grader. I didn’t know a soul, but quickly made friends with a sweet girl named Carrie. We had the same striped shirt from the GAP, rockin’ headbands, and 90′s bangs — soul mates for sure. In between nights of drinking Jolt and sneaking out of windows, we managed to pick up a copy of that great poster. Dare I post the photo of it? SARK, if it’s not okay… you just let me know and I’ll take this down.

Do you love this like I do? When I was 12, I liked it for it’s literal meanings but the older I’ve gotten — poster or no poster — these words still resonate with me. Make little signs that say “YES!” and post them all over your house. Genius. Swing as high as you can on a swingset by moonlight — now this one, grows with me. When I was young, it meant swinging with boys and now that I’m a mama, what a beautiful thing to swing by moonlight with your kiddo. Imagine the memories that are being created.
My favorite of all time — make friends with freedom & uncertainty. And this week, my friends, I’m doing it big. Tomorrow morning I’m hopping a plane all by myself and heading to the BlogHer conference in New York City. Will I miss Coach & Babycakes? For sure. BUT, I’m a woman first. And a damn good one and y’all… I am feeding my soul this weekend. I feel like my seventh grade self right now — naive perhaps, but adventurous!
In the spirit of making friends with freedom & uncertainty, my adventurous self has decided to host a giveaway (sponsored by yours truly) of a cute little iPod Shuffle!
