Last week, after a long run with a friend and with dumbbells in my hand, I confessed, “Most days, I just want to homeschool on a little farm with goats & chickens and a squeaky screen door.” The screen door is on its way, but achieving balance in my life is going to take a lot of prayer.
I’m a little bit good at a lot of things… yet never seem to find the time to dabble in any of them. I like writing, painting, & playing the piano, in addition to my duties of wife & mother, yet I spend far too much of my day checking my email.
And the checking of the email and the making of the phone calls all in the name of “I have a job now” is getting in the way of having clean towels. As a woman, I don’t want to admit defeat… we’re supposed to roll up our sleeves and do it all!
And yet all I want is a big kitchen table, some chickens, & a squeaky screen door. A slower pace of life suits me well, because moments like this:
won’t last forever.
