Fireman Scott & his Ferret

by Sara on February 10, 2010

This is a continuation of yesterday’s post…

Ahhh… historic Annapolis.  Now do you see why my parents were concerned?  This lovely piece of history you see below is where I decided to call home for a few months.

How many times in your life could you say you slept where George Washington once slept?  Keep in mind that he died in 1799.  I suppose that’s why the paint was peeling on the inside of the building and the floors were all slanted.  Messy Richard and I used to play a fun game called, “We ain’t got no furniture so let’s watch these coins roll downhill in the living room.”

One interesting thing about living at 217 Hanover Street — you NEVER needed an alarm clock.  You see, this amazing & historic building is directly across from the United States Naval Academy and at precisely 6:30 each morning, the trumpets sound Reveille.  The first morning, I think I wet myself.  Consider this tactic if your teenage children have trouble getting out of bed.  *wink*wink*

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

As promised, today I’m going to tell you about Fireman Scott.  If you have the image of a calendar hunk, I am very sorry to disappoint you.  He was a super-scientific fire engineer – no suspenders, no big truck, no sliding down poles.   I don’t remember where I met him nor do I remember if we had any cool dates.

What I remember most is that Fireman Scott had a pet ferret.

And he loved his ferret.  He let it roam freely about his house.  He built it a special little ferret fort with tubes and slides in the ferret’s bedroom.  Yes, the ferret brought Fireman Scott much joy.  Check, please!

Okay, okay… let’s give him a little more credit.  I once let him see my apartment and he immediately went into super-scientific fireman safety inspector mode calling the building a “death trap”.  I had to move — immediately.  With no money for a fourth U-haul, I loaded my belongings into my Saab and moved my bed on top of a friend’s mini-van and moved here…

Let it be known that it had two standard size doors in the event of a fire and first floor windows fit for escape.  Fireman Scott was happy, Mommy & Daddy were happy, & Messy Richard was confused.  Where did his roommate go?

The “love affair” with Fireman Scott was short lived…

but ferret love is forever.

Sara’s art house is right, you should write a book, perhaps you’ve just started it with these last 2 entries, they are hysterical, you should contact everyone on your list and make sure they read them…too funny to miss! You are an amazing woman with sooooooooooooooooo much talent. ” Do what you do so well, that you would do it without compensation and then do it so well, people will want to bring their friends too…” slight variation from Walt Disney
