Saving the World One Hug at a Time
Ask me how long Babycakes cried when I left the house on Saturday evening?
Take a guess.
No guesses?
Zero minutes.
On Saturday evening, Babycakes walked me to the door & happily continued her play with our new babysitter. Amazing. Wearing heels & jewelry, I drove to campus with the bass pumping. So what if I was just going to a football banquet?
The banquet got started a *little* late. There were more than 200 people to get through the buffet line — 100 players, their parents, our coaches, & 23 recruits and their families. It was a fun evening, but a little sad, too. I hate losing our seniors. HATE. IT.
When you’re 17 years old and leaving home for the first time, four years of college seems like an eternity. Four years, eight semesters, 40 football contests, blink, & it’s over.

A week or two ago, Coach went on a last minute home visit voyage through the South. There were school visits, home visits, & a snowstorm. He and another coach battled the elements in Georgia on their way to an evening home visit. Upon arrival, Recruit Mama welcomed them like family with a great big hug.
She’s a hugger, folks! Before her boys were allowed to ask any football questions, Recruit Mama wanted to know more about Coach. Do you have a family? Children? Dads want to know about the game & Moms want to know that their babies will be cared for by trustworthy people. Coach pulled out his photo album of our family much to Recruit Mama’s delight.
On Saturday evening, I had the opportunity to meet some of our recruits’ parents. There were lots of hand shakes until I met Recruit Mama. She greeted me with a great big hug! Her hugs were so warm & fuzzy! She is beautiful — brown eyes, chestnut brown skin, and long dark hair. Oooo… I like her! I hope I see them here in the fall because everyone could use more hugs…

We need 8 hugs a day for maintenance.
We need 12 hugs a day for growth.”

So much easier to leave the kiddo with a sitter when they’re not screaming as you walk out the door. I love to get dressed up and wear earrings.
And, hugs are the best. I’m definitely a hugger and have often wondered if my hugs make others uncomfortable. But, sometimes I need the hug, even if the receiver didn’t!

I’ve often felt that bittersweet feeling when it’s time for someone to move on. Hugs definitely help.
