I’m Down with O.P.P.
In 1991, Naughty-by-Nature released O.P.P. and it debuted at #6 on the music charts. I was in sixth grade and rockin’ my tape deck. When you’re eleven it’s your life’s mission to learn all the words to all the cool songs by Vanilla Ice & Color Me Badd. Upon learning these lyrics, it was then up to our posse of middle schoolers to keep our parents in the dark.
My parents were always shocked at our music choices — “You mean you like this?”
Oh, yes. We liked it very much. We listened to our boomboxes with the volume low, ears to the speakers so as it not get into BIG trouble.
“What does O.P.P. stand for anyway?” I remember my mom asking. “Other People’s Poop?”
And this brings me to today.
When Coach gets home this afternoon and asks, “So, what did y’all do today?” I’m just going to tell him…
I’m down with O.P.P.
Dirty diapers and dirty dogs.
Cleaning up poop like it’s my job.
