Interview With The Birthday Girl

by Sara on December 21, 2009

Little E celebrated her 4th birthday on Saturday!  The party was attended by Cinderella, two Snow Whites, & a toddling fairy.

FW: How old are you now?

Little E:  Four!  Almost four because December 23rd is MY birthday.

FW: How do you get to be four?

Little E: (turns on Loretta Lynn) I don’t know.  Santa has to do something.

Nana: That’s Christmas.  What about your birthday?  Can I be four?

Little E: No, because you’re fifteen.

Nana: How can I be four?

Little E: If you were a little gor like me.

FW: Which are you more excited for — your birthday or Christmas?

Little E: Christmas because it’s my birthday.

And the confusion continues.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

The girls are obsessed with Loretta Lynn & since Nana’s music player is on the second shelf, Babycakes can push play whenever the spirit moves her.  The spirit moves her often.  She is currently standing on a child size chair, wearing an apron, and swaying to Silver Bells.  Dangerous?  Absolutely.

The Babes and I have enjoyed our time here — in 24 hours we’ll be on a plane back to Coach.  I always have a hard time visiting EVERYONE.  Luckily, we celebrated my cousin’s 10th birthday last night and we were able to catch up with half the family at the party.  There was delicious food, football on television, lots of conversation, but an unfortunate elephant in the room.

My grandmother — the one that I wrote about here – is fighting another battle with cancer.  Her breast cancer has returned and was found when she had a recent mammogram.  She had a PET scan on Saturday to determine if the cancer has spread into other portions of her body.  So, on Sunday we ate cake, opened presents, and talked about anything and everything BUT cancer.

There are some people in my family with scabs on their knees from all the praying they’ve been doing over the past few weeks.  This Christmas, we’ll be celebrating the fact that our grandmother’s cancer did not spread outside her breast.  She will have some difficult decisions to make and a course of treatment that will not be simple.

Cancer – I loathe you.  I’d like to send you to East Jabip.  You can forget about getting a fruit basket from me.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

I’m going to leave you on a happy note.  After all, Santa’s coming in 3 days!  Let’s get happy!

At the end of the birthday party, Little E & red head P were playing school.  They both wanted to be the teacher & couldn’t agree on the rules of their pretend.  My mother, the Queen of Solutions, brought them each a baby doll to be their students.

Nana:  Girls, here you go.  Now you can both be teachers.

Little E: Oh, it’s okay.  We’re playing Nursing Home now.

I’m sorry to hear about your grandmother. My grandmother suffered from breast cancer and it’s a horrible wretched thing.

I’m glad you had a good time visiting your family. Sounds like a blast.

Be careful with that Christmas music! I should know.

It sounds like you’re having a lovely time. Wisdom, strength, and health to your grandmother.
