While others prepare for Christmas by baking cookies or playing holiday music, Coach continues in his quest for genius football players. Tis the season! I’m sending Christmas cards & he’s looking for high school transcripts. The week leading up to Christmas is always hurried — for me it’s the hustle and bustle of holiday shopping and for Coach it’s navigating freeway traffic to make home visits. Home visits — quite like Santa, huh? I bet if we had reindeer we could get more kids to go “Early Decision.”
Rather than bake alone, Babycakes & I are flying to Pennsylvania today to be with my family until Tuesday. The first time the Babes earned her wings she was 4 weeks old and barely weighed 8 pounds. I Baby Bjorned her through the airport, nursed her during our entire flights, and won the hearts of all the grandmas connecting from Detroit. The last time we flew, she was almost 8 months old, couldn’t crawl, yet still wanted to get down on the floor of the plane. On the second leg of that trip, she managed to make her way across my body to sit on the lap of the woman next to us. She didn’t mind. I think.
Our other alternative is to drive and if you were a reader of this blog in October, you will see why that is no longer an option by clicking here: click me. The danger of driving across four states by yourself with a toddler is that she will become cranky, you will become fatigued, and there will be no Starbucks in mountainous Virginia.
Today we are traveling “infant in arms” because I am cheap trying to save money. In my carry-on you will find three new books, a DVD player with Elmo videos, snacks, & sippy cups. I remember a time when airplane travel allowed me to read a book or close my eyes for a moment. Now it involves breaking into a sweat, manipulation, & overpacking. I could be wrong! Perhaps this dear child of mine will surprise me and want to relax comfortably on my lap and read and color and then finally take a cat nap. It could happen, right!? We’ll take pictures & post the result of our holidays travels!

Can’t wait to see you and Babycakes!! Thanks for enduring all the sweat and manipulation just to come home! We will make it worth it! Love you two!
Oh my. I remember flying with a baby. You are in for a treat : ). I live in Pennsylvania! I hope you have fun here. It is a nice state to visit! Good luck with your flight.
PS SITS : )
Oh my friend! Make sure the DVD is charged and you have back up batteries. I’ve flown with 2 of my boys, a lot. One isn’t so bad, other than when you have to pee. And as long as they don’t have to pee. Good luck! If all else fails, there is always benedryl.
Just doing a little blog surfing via SITS and stopped to check you out today. I’ll be back soon. I’m digging what I see.

Good luck and happy traveling.
I flew a half dozen times with my older son when he was little (FL to NY), and it was… fine. Never my fave. However, when I think about flying with a toddler, I immediately break into hives and start to tear up, remembering one particularly heinous trip in which I bore 2 yr old, car seat, bags and toys from gate to gate and then was reprimanded for leaving my heap of crap on a chair while I took said toddler to the potty. I think I cried when I arrived home. Not tears of joy.
Popped in from SITS! I hope everything goes smoothly!
I know traveling by car can be a challenge. I hope all goes well on the plane. I have 21 month old that didn’t sit still during storytime today. I don’t know how he would do on a flight.
Stopping by from SITS!
I’m having fun reading your blog – but – “mountainous” Virginia? Really?! We just moved to VA from the West (Rocky Mtn area) and I’ve yet to see a mountain… hills, maybe….lol! Hope your Christmas was merry, family woes and all!
Oh, wait…that’s not really my website – I can’t remember what it’s listed under, but that is NOT it! oops
