On Losing…

by Sara on October 4, 2009

I don’t like it.  It feels bad.  Coach works so hard and when he left for work this morning, can you guess what he said?  He said, “We just have to work harder.”  I didn’t know that was possible.

I may have mentioned before that Coach has tried to forbid me to read the online football fan forum.  Tried & failed.  I usually enjoy reading the football threads, but yesterday it got me all fired up.  Someone suggested that our football program was a joke.  That “someone” suggested that it was a waste of money.  Our football alums put him in his place, but what I would have given to meet that guy at the bike racks after school.  What a coward — I dare him to say those things in front of 120 players & coaches.

We’re having a bit of a rough start to our football season.

There have been times when I think, “how can it get any worse?” and then someone tears their ACL.  That’s college football for you — bumps, bruises, concussions, pulled hip flexers, torn ACLs, & broken legs.  My Hello Kitty band-aids won’t work on their boo-boos.  I can’t kiss it and make it all better.  Nope.  With seven starters out right now, we have a lot of young guys who are stepping up and making their mamas proud.

We didn’t make the trip to yesterday’s game in Florida, which means having to listen to the game on the radio.  The first two years, I was clueless.  I didn’t know our players’ names all that well and I would get confused about who had scored and never knew who was winning.  Shameful.  I’ve got it now — in fact, I would be more than happy to fill in for the play-by-play announcer.  Imagine how that would go…  “The cute quarterback who’s girlfriend babysits for us steps back to throw… ”  I better stick to piano lessons.

What’s wrong with announcing that way? I blog about football that way. Oh man, I just had a totally amazing idea. We should start a football announce team. Everyone would listen to us. :)
Our team lost too. :( I’m not as personally invested as you but I still feel sad. I do kind of wish I had a box of Hello Kitty bandaids.

As Pap always says…”the real winners are the ones who know how to lose gracefully.” Ok, Ok, I’ve heard that for years but guess what I never liked losing, it s***s! Keep your chins up because you just don’t know what’s in store for next week! Go Team!!
