Hidden Inspiration

by Sara on October 31, 2009

Our team played two airplane flights away today and so Babycakes and I stayed home this afternoon to listen to the game on the radio.  Listening to the game stresses me out — one minute I’m playing blocks with the baby and the next minute I’m standing at the window with a towel and a bottle of Windex.

I’ve never been so hormonal & emotional listening to a football game.  I almost burst into tears when we ran the ball 68 yards.  (Right now, my mom is reading this and wondering what has happened to her daughter.)  Tears, baby.  My eyes welled up, Babycakes looked at me with concern and then we both laughed.  Hysterical laughter on her part, nervous laughter for the FW.

In the third quarter, I started cleaning out a cabinet and found a miniature composition book filled with quotes that I had found from various books.  Where did this come from?  Why am I finding it now?  Does that ever happen to you?  It’s amazing how just the right words will find you exactly when you need them.

I’ve been feeling very restless lately — a losing football season, a house we can’t sell,  & clients cutting back on piano lessons.  I have a room full of fabric & paint upstairs yet I rarely venture there — my excuse always being that I never have enough time.

What did you say?

BooHoo?

Why don’t you just make some time?

You’re spot on.

Here’s the quote of the day for anyone feeling restless.  I hope it renews you.

“If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours…  If you built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be.  Now put the foundations under them.”  – Henry David Thoreau

As for me, well I actually, really, truly don’t have time to do anything creative tonight because I have to take a 13 month old Trick-or-Treating with the neighborhood gang.  Maybe tomorrow?

Wondering how the game turned out?

Here’s a few quotes about that:

“Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.”  — Confucius

“That is life, to have your A-string snap and finish on three strings.”  – Harry Emerson Fosdick

That Thoreau quote is a fabulous one.

I’m sorry about the losing season… I struggle with losing football season for my team, and my husband has no interest in it! (I can’t imagine being the coaches wife sometimes…)

And really? Crying over a football game is fine. Been there. Done that. LOL! (And I swear, I wasn’t pregnant at the time.)

Waxing prophetic on a Sunday morning. A great way to get ready for the gridiron matches with the NFL. The New York Giants vs. the Eagles in NYC. Then it on to Phildelphia for the World Series. Hold on tight!

Here’s another quote to pull out when the ball isn’t bouncing your way… “If you link your happiness to the whims of a game, the odds of ever feeling truly satisfied are slim to none” from the book Balls, Nanci Kincaid. It’s a hard one to manage sometimes, but really good advice.

I know how you feel, I’ve cleaned out many closets and cupboards listening to far away games through the years. I’ve screamed at the radio, cried into my clean laundry and cheered so loudly that I scared the neighbors dog.

It’s always a wild ride, win or lose.
