Daddy’s Little Sideline Coach

I think I have a wild one on my hands.

Last Thursday we had a playdate with another baby from church.  We might need to find another church.  Baby G is four weeks older, five pounds heavier, and overall a bigger baby.  Babycakes has been walking since the second week of August and this poor little guy had no way of getting away from her.  She pulled his hair, stole his snack, kidnapped his sippy cup, took away toys, and smacked him around.  I apologized for her behavior, tried to teach her to be gentle, but she laughed hysterically at the notion.  “Maybe she’s just going to be a leader,” the other mother said politely.  Yes, or in jail.

We had a game on Saturday night and Babycakes was ready for action.  How she keeps up with the two year olds, I’ll never know.  She sees the big babies do things and fearlessly gives it a try.  She saw her little buddy who showed her the three point stance — his Daddy mentioned to his wife that “Babycakes is a girl who knows what she wants in life.  She chased after Henry a few weeks ago.”  She really chased him this time and she stole the first aid kit from his mama’s diaper bag.

On the topic of stealing things from bags — guess where she found that whistle?  Coach blew into it to show her how it works and she carried it around for an hour.  When she told me to drop and give her 20, I told her it was time for bed.

This morning she woke up at 4 am.  That’s mighty early, so I fed her a little bit and laid her back in bed.  I thought she was asleep until I heard her practicing her B’s.  Giggling, she said, “Baaahhh” & then “Bob.”  I think she liked how the word “Bob” felt in her mouth because she said it over & over again until finally at 5:30, she Bob’ed herself to sleep.

She is still sleeping.

  1. So cute. I love a baby with energy. Yes, that’s how we’re spinning Babycakes’ antics: gorgeous baby energy. Of course, that might be because I’m nowhere near that whistle.

We don’t do whistles in our house. They make Mommy crazy. Nobody likes a crazy mommy.

  2. We have a whistle and Bella finds it in the toybox once and awhile and I hide it again as soon as I get a chance. The whistle isn’t as cute when a five year old gets all her air into it.

I love that Babycakes chases boys and then beats them up. This is a girl after my own heart.
