Mommy Paints

by Sara on May 19, 2009

Since our Friday Night Cleanfest has our house in tip-top & lick-able shape, it afforded me the opportunity to finally work on a painting for Babycakes’ room.  The pink walls in her bedroom are just screaming for a Mommy original.  I sketched out this tree months ago and yesterday I finally worked up the nerve to paint it.

Here’s the #1 rule about creating things for your children:

It doesn’t have to be perfect.

When I was a child, my parents were always creating things for us.  My mom sewed dresses & made us baby dolls and painted murals on our bedroom walls.  My dad once built a kitchenette for me & a rocking horse for my sister.  The items that they made for us so lovingly, are the things that I have always cherished the most.  If they had worried about absolute perfection, they might have stopped  before the first paint stroke or first cut of lumber.  I think that when you’re creating something out of love for another, your determination level increases.  As I painted yesterday, I thought of that sweet baby and radiated pure JOY.

Your tree is awesome! I love the little bird. So cute! I wish I could paint a tree that looked like that instead of one a three year old drew. I found your blog through LKM (just so you know I’m not some crazy random person :) ).

You’re very talented. There is no way I could do that! I would absolutely have to go for the free form abstract look. . .

I’m with Whitney. My tree would definately look like the work of a 3 year old. Yours on the other hand is so cute.

Hi! Thanks for visiting my blog… I just saw where you had left me a comment about the nest painting! Thank you so much! And I wanted to tell you that your tree painting is absolutely precious! I’m so glad you did that for your little daughter. I know it will be special to her just like your parents ‘art gifts’ have been to you! Way to go and paint more! See you at the Coach’s wife!
