Weekends with Coach & Babycakes

by Sara on April 20, 2009

Spring Football season is over, but one last recruiting weekend snuck itself into my life.  When will it all end?!  That honey-do list  has gotten very long…

On Sunday, we finally got some housework accomplished.  Coach mowed the lawn (his area of expertise) while I scrubbed and polished the inside of the house.  Normally, weeding the flower beds has been my job.  Since I had Babycakes in my arms all morning, Coach was happy to take over.  First, however, he needed me to point out the difference between the weeds and the flowers.

“Honey, this is a weed.”

yucky weed

”And this one, obviously, is a flower.”

Coach proceeded to spray the prickly weeds invading my Lily bed, while Babycakes and I surveyed the landscape.  It was so nice to be outside soaking up some Vitamin D after so many weeks of dreary weather.  I won’t lie, it was also nice to not have to break a sweat or get dirty.  I hate to sweat & I’m not too fond of red clay in my fingernails either!  As Babycakes and I were about to head inside…

Coach asked, “What about the forsythias?”

“We don’t have any forsythias,” I responded.

Coach had accidentally thrown those away two seasons ago when he mistook them for dead sticks.

“Around the side.”

“Oh, you mean the hydrangeas.  Sure, you can weed around those.  There might be some grass growing around them.”

Let’s just say that it’s good that I’m a micro-manager around the house.  As I checked his progress…

“Uhm, Honey, that IS the hydrangea that you’re chopping.”

My poor sweet husband… it reminded me of the time that he gave the Boston Ferns on our front porch a haircut.
