AFCWA – Are you a member?

by Sara on March 16, 2009

Last year, upon returning from the Football Coaches’ Convention in San Antonio, Coach handed me a book.  It was a cute little book full of stories & recipes called “Married to the Game”.

“It’s from Coach B’s wife…”

Wife?  What was a wife doing at Convention?

“Because wives can come, too.”

I had been kept in the dark… until this year.  I was not about to miss my opportunity to join this huddle of fabulous women.  Women who, every FALL, have to take out the garbage & mow the lawn, women who have to smile through their teeth when the fan behind them is insulting their husband, women who have to listen to the Monday morning quarterbacks give their take on the game when all you wanted to do was return your library books.  These are my people.

In January, I made my first appearance at Convention and immediately joined the AFCWA.  (You might be wondering about my untimely posting of these events, but I just got a chance to sit down and read our newsletter that arrived last week.  Ahh, life with a baby…)

Coach B’s wife introduced me to other wives in the hospitality room & although we were unable to stay for the entire weekend of events in Nashville, we enjoyed our time walking through the exhibit hall, meeting lots of friendly faces, and strolling around the hotel

I’m looking forward to next year when we travel to Orlando, but I’m torn — take Babycakes or send her to grandma’s?  Or take ‘em all!
